30' Shelter Island Nomad
CH Marine announces the latest innovative addition to its fleet: the Shelter
Island Nomad. This yacht is designed to provide a quick, stable platform for
fishing, scuba diving, and family outings. The Nomad features an extremely
efficient propulsion system and a unique opening transom. Nicknamed the “Tailgate,”
a large portion of the transom hinges down to become a swim platform providing
easy on and off access for either an inflatable, mopeds, a wheelchair or divers.
At anchor in your favorite harbor, you’ll be watching sunsets at the water’s
edge with the tailgate down.
Twin inboard diesels, driving surface piercing propellers that are tucked
up in ventilated tunnels will increase efficiency and top speed, and decrease
fuel consumption. Since the props are recessed inside the hull tunnels there
is added protection against striking submerged objects. The draft is a mere
20". Power calls for a pair of Yanmar 6BY diesels rated at 260 HP each that
will yield a cruising speed of 44 mph with a top speed in the vicinity of
50 mph. Optional power offered would be a pair of Yanmar 315 HP diesels that
will provide a cruising speed in the neighborhood of 48 mph, and with these
engines the Nomad should top out at a breathtaking 55 mph! A pair of bench
seats aft will also be available.
The helm is being designed around the Raymarine “C” series integrated color
GPS/radar/chartplotter and fishfinder. Down below there’s an enclosed head
with handheld shower, a V berth, and a suitably sized hanging locker. There’s
even a galley complete with refrigeration, sink with hot and cold pressurized
water and an available countertop stove. The quality of construction and equipment
specified for the Nomad will be to CH Marine’s exacting standards. In the
tradition of all CH Marine yachts, the ride will be remarkably smooth and
quiet. We expect to launch the Nomad this fall. Although the first two boats
are spoken for we can build yours this winter in time for the summer season.
Expect to read reviews of this remarkable boat in future issues of the popular
marine magazines.
